MAC 700, MAC 550 for Venezuela’s Top Rock Band
January 20, 2006
Lighting Designer and programmer Alexander Sawaya had the opportunity to use the new Martin MAC 700 Profile on a concert by top Venezuelan rock band Caramelos de Cianuro and jumped at the opportunity.
“I found out about these new lamps and wanted to use them,” he states. “It was the first time in my life that I had the opportunity to use a brand new lamp and it was a great experience. Innovations such as this allow our work to be more creative and better every day.”
On November 25, 2005 Caramelos de Cianuro played a show at the CIEC venue in Caracas, Venezuela. The concert took place in the middle of the recording of a new CD and called for new looks which the MAC 700 could provide. Alexander placed 5 of the versatile profile spots upstage and used 2 as side fill to project onto a cyclorama.
“The gobos in the MAC 700 and the possibility of combining them is very interesting,” he commented. “The gobo ‘fused dichro 002’ is just spectacular. The power of the lamp and the mixing of colors are other good qualities as is the smoothness of the iris and shutter. Also, it is virtually silent and the optics are excellent. The variety of functions of the MAC 700 really makes a difference compared to other moving heads.”
Additional lighting on the show included 7 MAC 550 profile spots, 6 Atomic 3000 strobes and conventionals with control from a Martin LightJockey. Lighting supply was by Industrias Rayco.
“Presently there are only a few MAC 700s in the country but I am hoping that the rental companies can manage to buy between 12 or 16 more because from February when we begin the new tour they will be a part of my new design.”
