MAC 700s on a Delirious Mission
December 06, 2006
Delirious? a five-piece rock band from Littlehampton formed 10 years ago, started out playing at church halls and became increasingly popular by selling their records in churches and Christian bookshops worldwide. Today they are huge, outselling Robbie Williams in America two to one and they have backed Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams. Contemporary Christian music generates a massive $800 million a year in the US. They are right in the middle of a sell out 6 week UK and European tour.
Martin Professional lights were used for the entire tour which included MAC 300s, MAC 700 Profiles, Atomic 3000 Strobes and ZR 24/7 Hazers. All the lights have been hired from Entec Sound & Light to Ian Cattle of IC Productions who has managed the tour.
Lighting Designer, Tom Scott explained the lighting brief for the tour, “They wanted to put on a rock show with strong colour changing, sweeping washes and animated effects.”
He chose the MAC 700 Profiles because he needed the profile to carry CMY, iris and zoom functions, giving the size of the 700’s made it a better and more versatile fixture to tour with. They were also lighter than some of the bigger units on the market which helped. He comments further, “The optics on the MAC 700 are fantastic and very bright. they make gobo looks come out 100 times better than some other fixtures I’ve used and the animation wheel is wicked for generating some of the bigger looks.” He also commented on the MAC 300's which he has used for a long time without any problems, describing them as ‘great workhorses’.
Atomics were used as colour changers because of their brightness and the fact that they were really versatile; they were placed on the floor facing the band.
Tom also thanked the rental company Entec, praising Noreen and Adam who have helped them tremendously throughout the tour. He also thanked Nic Burlace for being an extremely competent system tech and Andy Hutch who as the Vision Director helped greatly in bridging the gap between video and lights.
