MAC III Profile™ Possibilities for Swedish Grammis Awards

February 26, 2009

On January 7th, the Swedish music industry gathered at Hovet arena in Stockholm for presentation of the country’s most important musical awards, the Grammis, a Swedish version of the Grammy Awards. Set and lighting design for the TV show, broadcast on Sweden’s TV4, was by Pelle Larsson who incorporated Martin Professional’s new 1500 watt MAC III Profile™ as well as Martin MAC 2000 Wash XBs into his design.

“The wishes from the producers were for unique lighting looks for each of six acts,” Larsson says. “I wanted a plain retro look with a lot of possibilities and we really managed to accomplish that with use of the MAC III Profile.” Larsson, of Stockholm-based lighting distributor Lightland, produced the original visual designs for acts A Camp, Timo Rääisinen/ In Flames, Robyn/Christian Falk, EMD, Christian Waltz and Takida.

Lightland was one of the first companies to acquire MAC III Profile fixtures last fall. “I have used Martin equipment for a long time now because you can always trust that everything will work when you really need it. So when I got the opportunity to see the MAC III for the first time in Denmark last summer I was impressed with the output and the optical features,” Larsson says. “I basically decided immediately that I would use them as soon as possible.”

Launched just a few months ago, the MAC III Profile has already seen service on numerous tours (including James Blunt, Andre Rieu, and Raphael), television productions, special events and more. Featuring a new design and superior feature list, its super bright, fat beam adds a new dimension to shows.

“No doubt this is a powerful tool for every lighting designer,” Larsson continues. “What I like the most besides the output is the speed of the zoom – it is great! And the bright idea of putting in a battery backup for easy access to the setup personality and addressing is outstanding.”

The MAC III Profiles teamed with Martin MAC 2000 Wash XB™ fixtures on the show. Used to provide graphical content to a backdrop LED screen was a Martin Maxedia media server programmed by Robin Larsson.
