Martin at “CLP Lights Up Hong Kong 2003”
March 17, 2003
At this winter’s Lunar New Year Festival, Hong Kong has lightened up quite remarkably thanks to magical outdoor color illumination. The “CLP Lights Up Hong Kong 2003”, which is generously sponsored by CLP Power Hong Kong Ltd., has brought an exciting new experience to the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
In order to achieve the theme of “City of Life: Hong Kong is it!”, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre used 18 Martin Exterior 600 color changers for color wash effect on the plane area in 2002. The results were so good that “CLP Lights Up Hong Kong 2003” chose the Martin fixtures for their festival lighting show.
As part of the lighting demonstration plan for Victoria Harbor, the design concept features a show of extreme lighting effects. The Tourism Commission appointed Laservison for the lighting plan for Victoria Harbor with Simon McCartney as the lead consultant and project director. Lighting design was carried out by John Rayment with scenic projection completed by Peter Milne.
The design concept centered around five themes - metal, wood, water, fire and earth - leading the viewer through a journey of the senses. Lighting images were projected onto the Centre’s external facade, backed by an enthralling musical score and complementary architectural lighting. Apart from the Martin lighting products, image projection and laser effects were also applied. The score, just like the show, embraced classical, contemporary and traditional styles.
During the opening, 24 MAC 2000 Profile were used to illuminate the external facade from bottom to top while 6 MAC 2000 Profile illuminated the opposite side of the building.
The most impressive part of the show was “Fire” in which a series of red lights at the bottom of the facade, with laser highlights, gave the impression that the Cultural Centre was burning fiercely. Supported by image projection and laser effects, viewers were greatly amazed by the creative performance.
