Maxxyz at the Opera!

The Palacio Euskalduna Jauregia in Bilbao, Spain, voted the World’s Best Congress Centre in 2003, is yet another stunning landmark in Bilbao, second only to Gehry’s Guggenheim Museum.

In January, the Palacio was the scene of the 4th opera of the 53rd opera season of the Asociación Bilbaina de Amigos de la Ópera (The Bilbao Association of Friends of the Opera) or ABAO, an opera called Maometto II.

Lighting professional Raúl Gómez used a Martin Maxxyz lighting console with Maxxyz Tablet PC to program and operate the show. “Maxxyz did a great job on this opera, saving up to three days of programming work when compared to our previous desk,” he stated.

“Maxxyz managed 12 MAC 2000 Performance moving heads with up to 200 cues in 3 cuelists and an enormous amount of delay and fade time information without a problem. It’s fast, versatile, very functional and extraordinarily safe. We also used a Maxxyz Tablet PC remote control along with the Martin ShowDesginer Visualizer, two great tools for programming!”

Commenting on the Maxxyz and Tablet PC, Raul said, “The possibility to add or change new information to a cue without putting it in the programmer, with the ‘merge’ option, was fantastic and saved a lot of time for the entire team. The development of the Tablet PC is a wonderful idea and a fantastic tool! I made all my position presets from the stage, easy and fast. The Maxxyz performed simply perfect. It did a great job!”

Equipment supplier for Maometto II was Iluminación Albadalejo of Barcelona who acquires their Martin equipment through Martin’s Spanish representative, Ecler. Maxxyz and the Iluminación Albadalejo team of technicians have handled other operas at ABAO as well. Conventional lighting for Maometto II was controlled by the Euskalduna Palacio team.
