Mercedes Benz Booth at 2003 Detroit Auto Show
March 31, 2003
The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), also known as the Detroit Auto Show, took place in early January at the Cobo Conference and Exhibition Center in Detroit. A showcase for some of the world´s most fascinating vehicle introductions – and the lightshows that go with them - hundreds of Martin fixtures were featured at this year’s industry leading show.
At the Mercedes Benz booth some 125 MAC 2000 Profiles were part of a huge lighting package of over 350 automated luminaries delivered by Christie Lites. Lighting designer for the booth was Richard Profe of TLD Planungsgruppe of Germany with Sebastian Strober as Assistant Lighting Designer. Lighting programming was completed by Demfis Fyssicopulos and Robert Gurk.
Essentially the Mercedes Benz booth consisted of 12 turntables with 12 reflectors above each turntable that served as colorful illumination projection surfaces. As short technical films and an introduction film played for the world premier of the E-Class Station Wagon, the MAC 2000 Profiles provided a colorful and eye-catching accompaniment to the star of the show.
Giant motorized blinds that would come in and out at key moments surrounded the booth. All aspects of the show (lighting, sound, blinds, turntables) were aligned to the video time code.
