Rock Star America’s Premiere Gulf Coast Club

Rock Star America’s Premiere Gulf Coast Club

December 22, 2005

Rock Star is at the forefront of one of the latest trends in clubland U.S.A., the upscale rock club. With a live stage, exclusive bottle service and a sumptuous menu worthy of a fine restaurant, Rock Star makes clubgoers from across the American South feel like, well, rock stars.

The upscale VIP lounge is located on Destin Harbor in the Florida Panhandle on the state’s Gulf Coast and has been operating since June. Owner Rik Boss, son of famed business mogul Peter Boss of Legendary Inc., has created a one-of-a-kind venue and the first in the area to cater to the area’s choice clubbers in the form of a VIP nightclub.

Rock Star is outfitted with the best of the best including the latest in entertainment technology. A complete Martin Total Supplier package of Martin lighting, Mach audio and Jem smoke gear was supplied and installed by local Martin dealer TSC Productions of Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

Entrance and main bar
Rock Star’s unique atmosphere is felt the minute you step inside as Martin Architectural Cyclo Directional color changers shade an abstract honeycombed entryway wall. From there it’s on to a comfortable lounge area and main bar over which hang a pair of decorative white rings, each lined with 9mm sidelight fiber that reflects colorfully off the ceiling. Powering the fiber are full CMY color mixing Martin FiberSource fiber optic illuminators. Fit discretely into the décor on each side of the bar are Mach CS8 in-ceiling speakers.

Dance floor and live stage
The dance floor and live stage area feature an abundance of Martin gear including 2 MAC 250 Entour and 4 MAC 250+ profile spots, 5 MAC 300 washlights, 4 MX-10 Extreme scanners, 2 Atomic strobes with Atomic Color scrollers, as well as 2 FiberSource CMY 150s lighting 12mm sidelight fiber under the stage. Effects are enhanced by a Jem ZR 24/7 Hazer located beneath the stage. Lighting control is from a PC based Martin LightJockey programmed by Brendon Grimes of TSC Productions.

The stage itself is a half circle fronted by a silver beaded chain curtain. Four MX-10 scanners backlight the chain curtain between shows, but during performances the curtain becomes a reflective backdrop with the MX-10s used as stage lighting. Additional lighting includes over 200 feet of Amber LED throughout the venue.

From an acoustic standpoint the club’s low ceiling posed a challenge but was overcome by the low profile, high output combination of the Mach CM9. In fact, the ceiling over the dance floor was constructed to accommodate the Mach speaker system where each of 4 Mach CM9 top boxes is positioned. The ceiling was made to slant downward to provide both a direct throw onto the dancefloor and an aesthetically great look. Deep end bass comes from four Mach M152i dual 15" subs located under the stage.

VIP
For those who really want to feel like a rock star, a special VIP section accommodates. With beautiful views of Destin Harbor, clubbers can watch magnificent yachts and sail boats pass directly behind the club (there is also access to the club via docks on the Gulf side).

The VIP section is actually two areas divided by an archway illuminated by additional Cyclo Directionals. The upper VIP area is walled in by glass and visible at night by passing boats. Here, some sixty fiber tips, or fiber stalactites, of varying lengths hang from the ceiling, reflecting off the glass to give the room a larger than life feel. Powered by 6 FiberSource CMY 150s, the 60 tips drop from the ceiling in lengths of 5”, 9”, and 12” and add an abstract look to the room.

Sound reinforcement in the VIP section comes from 4 Mach CM7 medium throw top boxes and 2 Mach CN7 full range near field speakers working with 4 Mach M151i 15" subs. Speakers in the VIP area operate on a separate zone for full control. Additionally, 4 Mach MIW66 2-way inwall speakers are located in the bathrooms. Amplifiers are all PowerSoft with 2 Mach M20.06’s used for audio control. The majority of the audio equipment was installed by Legendary’s own audio personnel.
