Saloon’s Winning Formula
November 21, 2001
Currently enjoying enormous success in Italy is Saloon, a hit TV show with a winning formula of political satire and dancing girls. The show is filmed before a live audience at Rome’s Cinecittà studios and is the latest in a string of successes for national network Canale 5.
“Saloon”, in the words of its producer, Pier Francesco Pingitore, “is an apt description of the show. It suggests a rowdy roadhouse frequented by gunslingers, heroes, hustlers, conmen, and fallen women. Actually Saloon is Italy in a nutshell.”
Apart from its colorful line-up of local stars, Saloon also features a strong cast of Martin moving heads. To ensure the show was not short of color, Lighting Designer Gianni Mastropietro employed 50 Martin MAC 250s. Also appearing for the first time in Italian televisual history is Martin’s star performer, the MAC 2000, courtesy of rental company IMEL.
