Second Year Running for Martin LC Series™ on Credit Suisse Sports Awards

February 12, 2008

The 2006 Credit Suisse Sports Awards show has the distinction of being the first event ever to use Martin’s LC Series™ of semi-transparent LED panels. As the recently concluded 2007 edition of the Sports Awards show also featured Martin’s LED screens, it’s safe to say a tradition has begun.

Held in December 2007 at Bern’s Event Hall, Switzerland’s best sportsmen and sportswomen were acknowledged in a live TV broadcast on Swiss station SFDRS. Specified by set designer Tomi Bricchi, the LC panels were used as a three and four meter high decorative effect upstage while also providing general lighting to the stage.

“The initial requirement was that the set should be easily changeable,” comments Roni Huber, Technical Planner and Media Server Operator on the show. “Because there were several different acts and scenes it was highly important that the background could be changed fast.” Extremely bright, the LC Series integrates light, video and set design and is ideal for displaying an every changing array of video and images.

Custom content for the LED panels was handled by Martin Maxedia digital media servers, with custom graphics produced by SFDRS in cooperation with set designer Tomi Bricchi and lighting designer Peter Smith along with the show’s Art Director and Director.

The show reportedly went smoothly and the LC panels worked without problems. “The assumption was that the adjustment of the cameras and LC panels would take a lot of time, but in fact this was easily done,” Roni stated.

The lighting rig was made up of a bevy of Martin MAC moving heads: MAC TW1s, MAC 700 Profiles, MAC 2000 Washes, MAC 2000 Performances and MAC 250 Washes. Lighting Designer Peter Smith was especially delighted with the TW1s and replaced many fixtures in the plot with them. Equipment supplier for the show was Winkler Veranstaltungstechnik AG who acquires their gear from Martin’s Swiss distributor ASL Electronic AG/SA.
