Top Argentinean Festivals Awash in Martin Light
August 23, 2004
One of Argentina’s top lighting designers, Walter G. Buchholz, and freelance lighting designer and operator Ignacio "Iñaki" Rosenberg, are at it again. Coming off a successful Southfest music festival, Walter once again dazzled the crowd at a huge festival called Brahma Moonpark.
The music event, held on June 11 at Centro Costa Salguero, Argentina before a crowd of over 9,000, relied heavily on Martin equipment to provide the upbeat lighting. Lighting design, programming and operation for the event was by Walter Buchholz of WGB Lighting Design (www.wgb-designer.com).
Lighting supplier for the event was Buenos Aires Live Show, who provided 12 MAC 2000 Profiles, 26 MAC 600 wash lights and 2 MAC 500 profile spots, together with several conventional lights, other automated lighting and smoke machines. “Needless to say, the Martin equipment worked flawlessly,” commented Iñaki. “This event proved a huge success, led by Satoshi Tomiie, Luke Fair and Argentina´s Martin Garcia pumping their beats out to a huge, wonderfully energetic crowd.”
The lighting design consisted of a huge truss layout spanning over 60m and included two large squares joined by truss bridges along with complementary trussing above the booth. “The MAC 2000´s zoom was of special use as the ceiling in Costa Salguero is low, which required a big flood, and the throw from the trussing to the booth required narrower beam angles,” Inäki stated. Walter commented that the flexibility of the 2Ks provided a major benefit and expressed his satisfaction with the overall function of all units.
1 Camel Live
Another successful event on Argentina’s electronic music scene was 1 Live Camel, a combination staged show and full fledged party. Once again, WGB Lighting Design and Walter G. Buchholz were called upon to provide the unique lighting required for such a special show. The equipment list included 16 MAC 500, 22 MAC 600 and 12 MAC 2000 Profiles, along with conventionals and other automated lighting.
Backlining the stage was a ‘wall of light’ consisting of 16 MAC 500s in a 4 x 4 configuration. “To provide different looks for the three main shows, the trussing moved to accommodate different setups,” Inäki added. “The additional challenge was that the staged shows and DJs were interlaced so the DJ equipment and band equipment had to be mounted and dismounted for every section.”
Commanding the dance floor were national DJs Simbad, Zuker, Carlos Alfonsin and Martin Garcia while Bent, BT and headliner Audio Bullys provided the staged shows.
